Non-conforming building products

On 24 August 2017, legislation addressing non-conforming building products was passed by the Queensland Parliament. This legislation is the first of its kind in Australia.

 
Non-conforming building products (NCBPs) are building products and materials that are not of acceptable quality, do not meet Australian standards, are not fit for their intended purpose, or contain false or misleading claims.

Industrial Manslaughter In Queensland - 20 Years Imprisonment

The Queensland Government has broken ranks  with other States and Territories in Australia in the managenment of work health and safety with the introduction of the Work Health & Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2017 and a proposed new offence of Induatrial Manslaughter.

The creation of the offence of indsutrial manslaughter picks up on the recommendations of the Best Practice Review of Work Health & Safety in Queensland and follows on the heels of the fatalities at Eagle Farm Racecourse and Dreamworld last year.

The proposed lawa will provide a maximum penalty of $10 million for a corporate offender and 20 years imprisonment for any individual who commits industrial manslaughter.
